About Us

Welcome to the Sure Start Children’s Centre Pinehurst & Penhill. At the Sure Start Children’s Centre, Pinehurst and Penhill we offer a One-Stop Shop of services for all families with children under the age of 5 living in Pinehurst and Penhill.

Our Centre in Penhill, Swindon.
Sure Start is a government funded programme which aims to bring together local services for families which are accessible, flexible and meet the needs of children and parents. The government’s aim is for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances to have the support they need to:

Be Healthy
Stay Safe
Enjoy and Achieve
Make a Positive Contribution
Achieve Economic Well-being

This means that all organisations involved with providing services to children – from Hospitals to Children’s Centres will be working together to help children and young people to achieve what they want in life.

As a Children’s Centre we are managed by the Swindon Primary Care Trust and we work in close partnership with:

Swindon SureStart Partnership
Job Centre Plus
N.S.P.C.C
Swindon Academy
Swindon Borough Council
Swindon & Marlborough NHS Trust

The Children’s Centre has three buildings on two sites.

You can find us in Everleigh Road in Penhill which also has our neighbourhood nursery called Bright Start Day Nursery.  Bright Start Nursery has places for 34 children.

Our Early Years Centre and Pre-School, called Little Pinetrees is at our 2nd site in Linden Avenue, Pinehurst, Swindon.

In each of our buildings we offer bright, cheerful and child-friendly accommodation.
Each site is well equipped with excellent resources which are all available for parents, children, families and agencies in the area to use.

For example, our Penhill site has:

14 place Activity Creche
(A well equipped crèche room with a sensory room and secure outdoor play area with lots of equipment such as bikes, scooters and trikes, climbing and jungle frame.)

A Large Function Room
Where activities and events are held with the added bonus of a fully equiped kitchen, tables and chairs.

Also at our Penhill site:
A training room where ICT and other courses are held
Smaller meeting rooms
A breastfeeding room
Consulting room
Staff team room

With the help of local volunteers our gardens are now well established.  We have a thriving alloment community where families grow their own vegetables.

The children’s play equipment now stands amongst lots of new trees, grass, flowers, shrubs, plants and borders which both children and parents have helped to choose.

We have a sensory garden with willow cave and lots of other exciting things to do as part of our 'Bear Hunt' garden which children and parents can explore.

Yes! We even have our own nursery chickens!
